11/12/24 This is a great movie we’ve watched over the last few years, and I applaud my husband for finding these on YouTube. He is very good at identifying unique ones that are truly valuable, godly films, and views them all to see if they meet par. I love it! I love this one so much, that I could watch it over and over.

The character in the story, named Jabez, falls into the trap of the love of money. The devil, played by a goateed and teasingly cruel man, plays on the fact that Jabez had a plight against his finances. Due to his vulnerability and Jabez being weak in the faith, he quickly succumbed to signing a contract in blood appeasing the devil. In the film, he said he “would be willing to sell his soul to the devil for even 2 cents”, and then the devil appeared.

This supposed agreement meant the devil would make him rich. He would not be allowed to question how the devil would do it, and could not break the pact. (At the 7-year mark, he would have to make an account for what had transposed). Sadly, more than once he realized his irreversible act. Daniel Webster, the American hero in this story, is viewed as the one man who could probably “outwit even the devil” were the case to come to it, the case over Jabez’s soul. It does come to that! Jabez winds up hanging by a thread over hell, and though he gained much money, prestige, and wealth, he eventually loses all sensitivity to eternal things that keep men alive! Please enjoy this classic, and I pray that God helps us all remain in His Word! Please help us to keep a clean conscience, Jesus. That is what keeps us from sin. “Your word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105); “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you” (Psalm 119:11).
