10/22/2025 Phenomenol job; A good job researching, and kudos for her boldness!

In regards to an old account of the origins of Halloween, there is a belief that I had heard wind of before, that like this passage says, “They (those practicing the festival of “Samhain”/ancient Halloween) believed that on the last night of the year (October 31), the spirits of the dead would haunt the living, so they would leave food and wine on their doorsteps to appease and ward off spirits.” From John Piper’s Ministry, and his article from the “Desiring God” book :

Jesus spoke to that thought the Pharisees mentioned, accusing Jesus of being of Beelzebub, the prince of demons, and that being the reason he was driving out demons. Jesus said that “If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand?” (Matthew 12:26). In other words, in regards to demonic activity, could it be that Jesus intimated the thought, the spirit realm doesn’t work like that – demons casting out other demons? Jesus drove out evil spirits with a Word, because He was the Christ. The only way to get rid of a demon, is by calling on Jesus’ name to drive it out. “And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues;” ~Jesus (Mark 16:17 ESV).

I had watched portions of this video but had not finished it honestly until today (11/4/2025), and was glad to do so. I realized that Allie Beth Stuckey’s view of using the idea of people coming to the door, to give the people a tract, and use that encounter with people who come, to share the gospel. I think that is very brave, but every year at Halloween I have horrible encounters with spiritual warfare, and I do not go looking for them. I will have nightmares, or demonic coincidences, or things the devil uses “out of the way” to wear me down. So, this year, we did not use the time to share the gospel. But, for next year, I think it could be a do-able idea, to use the encounter at the front door, to share the gospel with neighbors. I would be glad to see if there is some fruit that we could bear for God!

I realized I don’t want to close off even one day of the year to where Jesus can work. I recalled she said about “not one (holiday) day is more holy than the next”, from Romans 14:5. This seems to uphold her argument that some people do hold all days alike. However, Romans 14:5 also says this “One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind”. So, though I think apostle Paul leaned towards the pushing of all days the same, he clearly wrote “one man considers one day more sacred”. I think I am in the camp of considering that way – that some days are honored and honorable or let’s say “easier” in terms of being a Christian. I have really a lot of struggles in October. For the last several years at least I’ve struggled with overt spiritual phenomena in October not just Halloween day – but the whole month, so I usually have my radar up; and Lord help me not to give into any spirit of suspicion. Thinking that one day is more sacred is Ok, as long as I’m fully convinced in my own mind. (Updated 11/05/2025) In Leviticus, right now, I’m reading about appointed times and sacred assemblies (“holy” days). “These are the Lord’s appointed feasts, the sacred assemblies you are to proclaim at their appointed times.” (Leviticus 23:4). In the Old Testament,God did consider some days holier than others. So, in regards to holidays, I understand that side. That’s what I think the apostle Paul means, but I love to learn about the Bible, and be taught by God. I value the liberty we have in faith. But our liberty is to be in a state of this: “him whom the Son has set free, He is free indeed”. John 8:46. So, where are we truly free? Truly being “free in the spirit” hopefuly means that we could live as though Heaven were around us: to live unto righteousness :)! That is a good pursuit for even Halloween day or any day.
