This is a topic that is so controversial, yet to me seems very plain. That all magic would stem from evil, if even evil disguised as fun or non-malevolent, to me seems plain. But what is it that makes it plain to me? It could have been my blunders in prayer and in dealing with the spiritual realm that makes me fear it, but even if I didn’t have some of those experiences, I know that delving into it immediately would involve a choice of going in the wrong direction. To others, it is not as obvious that magic (miracles that are not derived from God), as many that practice magic, may themselves tout that magic is only for fun, pretend, and holds no power. It is no joke and no laughing matter, however, when we consider it as promoted and taught to children. It should be disallowable to us, and is spoken against 2 times as a trait of the civilization of Babylon that is mysteriously linked (in Scripture Old and New Testament) to the height of the world’s rebellion in paganism. I didn’t realize that as much until it was so highlighted to me in the last 5 years or so. Recently some of us at home were reading in Isaiah were reading Isaiah 47 and came upon this:
(Addressed to the “virgin daughter of Babylon” Isaiah 47:1)
“Persist now in your spells And in your many sorceries With which you have labored from your youth; Perhaps you will be able to benefit, Perhaps you may cause trembling.” (NASB Isaiah 47:12)
“Keep on, then, with your magic spells and with your many sorceries, which you have labored at since childhood. Perhaps you will succeed, perhaps you will cause terror.” (NIV Isaiah 47:12)
Then in Revelation, verse 18:23 – then again also addressed to Babylon.
